Promo Codes

Online Discount / Promo CodesPromo codes are a great way to attract people to your website.  By helping your visitors save money online, your online business site can achieve higher traffic and purchases. Also, visitors will be more enticed to check back for more savings in the future! Scroll down to learn more about online promo codes and how you can use them to PROMOTE your site.

What Are Promo Codes?

Promo codes, otherwise known as online discount codes or discount promo codes, are codes consisting of letters and/or numbers that are used in online purchases.

  • Just like normal coupons, promo codes are a promotional discounts provided by online merchants. They are part of marketing strategy, with the purpose of attracting new customers and reminding past customers what their business has to offer.
  • In general, promo codes offer discounts, freebies, free shipping, and other great online deals that can help entice customers to make an online purchase and (hopefully) return again in the future.
  • To claim an online promo code, all customers have to do is enter the code during their check-out process when prompted.

It's important to make sure that all online promo codes are legitimate and can be associated with the promotion of a product. This may seem like common sense, but it's surprising how many sites promote out-of-date codes. So, it's always smart to double check your promo codes before using or recommending them to others.

Using Online Promo Codes for Your Business

Online Promo Codes

Let's face it, online shopping has made almost any product available to the mass public. Combine that with the tight economy of today, and people are much more likely to compare and contrast the choices available to them to make their dollars stretch even further. Why not take advantage of this opportunity by displaying promo codes on your site to help your visitors save even more money?!

Here are some helpful hints and strategies on how to use online promo codes for your business:

  • The vast majority of online coupons today come from niche websites that refer visitors (with relevant coupons) to online shopping sites. Let's say someone has a niche website about football and promotes football-related products via the eBay affiliate program.  By adding relevant eBay promo codes to their site, visitors may be more apt to take advantage of  an offer, and then return again for even more chances to save.
  • Most online promo codes are for NEW registrations or purchases, so they are a great way to entice visitors to sign up for and/or buy new programs, products, and/or services that you promote on your site. A popular use of "new registration" promo codes is through online sportsbooks, casinos, and poker rooms. Often called "bonus codes", these codes offer referring websites a chance to make money off of people's deposits and winnings. Learn how to become a poker affiliate, like Kick Ass Poker has done (note the "bonus codes" in the middle of the page)!
  • Another great way to use promo codes, is to include them in your email campaign. By doing so, you can urge viewers to sign up for your newsletter - especially if you keep promo alerts up-to-date and include new code releases as well. To get started selling promo codes, test out other site's email newsletter campaigns to become familiar with the discount codes. Next, check your affiliate programs to see if they offer codes for you to advertise on your website. If they don't offer promo codes, this is not uncommon. After all they are free to find on other sites, and simple to display on your own.

Where To Find Online Promo Codes

First, you should check and see if online promo codes are available from your affiliate programs. Still in search of promo codes to display on your site? Check out the following online retailers that offer promo codes: eBayAmazon, GoDaddy, Best Buy, and even Disneyland. Also, you should further research relevant sites (that relate to your niche) to see if they offer promo codes through email or an affiliate program.

After deciding on a code to promote, make sure to check the online retailer's corporate site to see if they have an affiliate program. This way, you can generate even more off your sales! More so, it's a smart idea to sign up for the retailer's newsletter so that you can find out about new codes and offers to help your visitors cut costs when they purchase from your site.

In most cases it is easier to rename your home page to one of the documents above.

Please note that some file names (such as .asp and .shtml) are reserved for specific types of web applications. If you are unsure of which file extension to use, you can safely use .htm or .html instead.

Mozilla Firefox Review

Mozilla Firefox

This Mozilla Firefox Review provides an overview of the Firefox web browser and how we've used it in our online business. Since the majority of computers today come with Internet Explorer as the standard web browser, we're sharing why (and how) the Mozilla Firefox browser can significantly improve your web browsing experience.

Why Use Firefox?

The Mozilla Firefox browser is a free, open source web browser that allows users to access, navigate and search the internet. Since its debut in 2004, the Mozilla Firefox browser has been downloaded by over a BILLION people and is now the second most popular browser in the world today (under Internet Explorer, explained at the bottom of this page).

With the slogan, "Faster, Safter, Smarter, Better", this browser is one of the most innovative, user-friendly, and safe ways to navigate the internet. Here are the top five reasons we enjoy the Firefox browser:

  1. Fast performance and easy navigation.
  2. Safe surfing with updated security software, private browsing, pop-up blockers, and a staff that promises to keep you and your personal information safe.
  3. A feature known as "live bookmarks" allows users to automatically receive the latest RSS updates from websites of their choice.
  4. Tabbed browsing, which means you can open tabs at the top of your browser window (instead of separate windows). This makes it easy to switch back and forth between pages, and saves system resources by using only one browser.
  5. Customization options are based on your individual needs and interests, including countless add-on capabilities (further explained below) and a built-in search bar that includes a drop down list of search engine choices (Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Wikipedia, eBay) with the option to add new ones.

Mozilla Firefox Add-Ons

Firefox Add-Ons

Firefox Add-Ons are features that can be installed on your Firefox browser. We like the fact that Firefox provides options to search within the whole add-ons collection, within categories, among popularity, and so on.

Our favorite way to keep our add-ons up-to-date is with the Mozilla Firefox Add-on Collector, because it notifies when add-ons are going to expire or if updates are available. To find our other favorites, check the Firefox Add-Ons review!

Firefox Video Review

Check out this video review of Mozilla Firefox from CNET:

Firefox vs. Internet Explorer

For most of the population, Internet Explorer (developed by Microsoft) is the standard web browser. Even though this standard browser has "worked fine" so far, there are other browsers (like Firefox) that are more up-to-date and secure when compared to that of Internet Explorer.

  • More so, Internet Explorer has become so well-used that it's now the most popular target of hackers and viruses, yet Microsoft has failed to keep up with security issues.

According to the Washington Post, Internet Explorer users are 76% more vulnerable to online threats than Mozilla Firefox users.

Mozilla Firefox vs. Internet Explorer

Overall, we believe the Firefox browser is fast, easy, and user-friendly web browser that offers many innovative and secure features - especially when compared to that of Internet Explorer.

Squidoo Review

Squidoo ReviewThis Squidoo Review is an overview of what we've learned about the site and how it has benefited our online businesses. Squidoo provides a fun, simple, and FREE way to share your interests and generate SEO for your website. Scroll down to find out even more about how Squidoo can benefit your online business as well!

What Is Squidoo?

For the public, Squidoo is a site that contains a portal of different topics. People can choose a topic of their choice, and then browse among relevant listings to obtain a better understanding. Sites like Wikipedia do this as well, but for many Squidoo is a more interactive and creative way to obtain an quick overview of a topic.

For those like us in the online business world, Squidoo is a web platform that allows anyone to create a free web page. This page can then be linked to your website or blog to drive visitor traffic that you wouldn't have came across otherwise.  Even better, Squidoo is free to use for EVERYONE! The only catch is that there's some crazy terminology to learn along the way:

  • A Squidoo web page is called a "lens"
  • The publisher of a lens is the "lensmaster"
  • Every Squidoo lens is built with "modules"

In other words, a lensmaster (you) can create a lens, then build that lens with modules (based on a topic of choice) and then display this module-filled page to the public. Modules are simply features that can be added to your Squidoo lens to organize content and make it more appealing. Modules include text, RSS feeds, eBay and Amazon affiliate features, Google maps, voting polls, and tons more. Even though the Squidoo terminology can make lens construction seem complicated, it's actually very simple - with Squidoo links to help you out along the way.

After a Squidoo lens is published, people can visit and rate your lens, bookmark it on their web browser, share it with friends through email, or even link it to social networks like Digg or Facebook. Read along to find out how you can attract these visitors, and generate SEO for your web sites.

Squidoo - Online Business & SEO

Even though a Squidoo lens doesn't give you as much control as a web platform like WordPress would, it's a great place to promote your website or blog, and generate some traffic (and hopefully sales) for your current web sites. We did this with our website KickAssMMA.com, by constructing relevant Squidoo lenses and then linking the lenses back to our MMA site to generate traffic (that would not have existed otherwise). What Is The 4 Day Cash Machine?

The 4 Day Cash Machine is an email newsletter marketing campaign developed by Frank Kern. As part of Kern's "Mass Control" training course, the 4 Day Cash Machine is actually a very simple email marketing program that involves the following:

  • Offering a product or digital service for an incredible (discounted) sales price during a four-day time period, with the offer expiring on the fourth day.
  • The first email explains a "great" offer, its benefits and includes a call-to-action for subscribers to purchase the product/service. The remaining three emails then serve as reminders - reinstating that the discounted price of the product/service is about to expire.

Check out this link to see how our first day of the Trying the 4 Day Cash Machine went! For the last three days, read our Email Marketing Success with 4 Day Cash Machine post.

What Do I Need for the 4 Day Cash Machine?

The following is needed to successfully launch the 4 Day Cash Machine email campaign:

  1. A product or service that can be offered to your consumers. Since this campaign is meant for any product/service at any time,  ClickBank is a great place to look if you need to find a product/service to offer your email list. Go off your website's niche...

4 Day Cash Machine – Case Studies

4 Day Cash Machine Case Studies The 4 Day Cash Machine is an email newsletter marketing campaign that has proven successful for many online businesses. Along with our email newsletter marketing software AWeber, and our affiliate marketing partner site ClickBank, we conducted the following case studies to test out the "4 Day Cash Machine" for ourselves. Scroll down to see how our 4 Day Cash Machine campaigns turned out!

What is the 4 Day Cash Machine?

A past employee of ours, who now runs PotPieGirl.com, told us about the "4 Day Cash Machine". Simply put, the 4 Day Cash Machine is an email newsletter marketing campaign that involves offering a product or digital service at a discounted price for four days in a row - with the offer expiring at the end of the four days.

  • The first email explains a "great" offer, its benefits and includes a call-to-action. The remaining three emails then serve as reminders - reinstating that the special sale price of the product/service is about to expire.
  • By using the "4 Day Cash Machine", an online business has the opportunity to make more sales, customer awareness, and web traffic.

"4 Day Cash Machine" Case Study #1

Poker Dealer School - DealerTraining.comWe put the "4 Day Cash Machine" campaign to use with our Dealer-Training site and Poker Dealer School, which includes an eBook, videos, tricks of the trade, instructions, and a certificate of completion.

  • With our Poker Dealer School, anyone can learn how to deal poker at casino standards and make around $300 a night dealing at poker tournaments.
  • The subscribers who purchased the program already were automatically deleted from the email list. So, we offered the program to subscribers who had not purchased the program yet, hoping that a discount price would entice them to do so.

Although the "4 Day Cash Machine" seemed spammy at first, the internet marketing techniques proved to increase our sales and generate more web traffic. Here's how the process went:

  1. The price of the Poker Dealer School was marked at 75% off. Since the normal selling price is$197, this offer was only $49 - pretty significant savings for someone who's looking to learn the art of dealing poker.
  2. We wrote a 4-day email series and put the "4 Day Cash Machine" into use with our email newsletter software AWeber and our current email list (those who had signed up to learn more information on dealer training).

Here's a look at our first "4 Day Cash Machine" (May 20-23, 2009) campaign results:

  • On the 1st day, we had a 25.1% open rate, a 6.9% click-through rate, 10 sales, and a 10/75 conversion rate. To find out more about our 1st day of the "4 Day Cash Machine", check out our post - Trying the "4 Day Cash Machine".
  • 2nd day: 13% open rate, 5.6% click-through rate, three sales, , and a conversion rate of 3/57.
  • 3rd day:  13.6 open rate, 3.4% click-through (all to buy now page, none to the sales lander), eight sales, and a conversion rate of 8/39.
  • 4th day: 12.3 open rate, 4% click-through, and 10 sales, and a 10/49 conversion rate.

To view our results more easily, here are some visuals of our try at the "4 Day Cash Machine", using AWeber and ClickBank:

4 Day Cash Machine - ResultsEmail Newsletter Campaign - 4 Day Cash Machine

  • As for unsubscribers, we had four opt out of our email list the day prior to the campaign but resulted in ZERO unsubscribers during and immediately after the campaign.

With everything considered, this success serves as a starting point to judge future case studies off of and (hopefully) overcome in the future! Check out the following post on our 1st Cast Study of the 4 Day Cash Machine - Using AWeber for the "4 Day Cash Machine" email harvest!

"4 Day Cash Machine" Case Study #2

For our second case study, we put the "4 Day Cash Machine" to use our Dealer-Training site again, to see how it would compare to our first run-through. Just like the first case study, we offered our dealer training package Poker Dealer School, and used the Dealer-Training site's newsletter email list. The customers who had already bought the poker dealing program were automatically removed, so we were excited to have a second try at those interested in hearing about poker-related software. Here's how the process of our second case study went:

  1. Again, we offered our Poker Dealing School for $49, which is 75% off the normal selling price of$197.
  2. Using the email newsletter software AWeber, we wrote a different 4-day email series (September 22 - 25, 2009), and sent out the messages to our Kick Ass Poker email list (those who had already bought the program we automatically deleted) at 11:00 a.m on each day.

Here's a look at our Case Study #2 results of the "4 Day Cash Machine":

  • 1st day: 14.4% open rate, a 2.4% click-through rate, four sales, and a 4/27 conversion rate.
  • 2nd day: 14.5% open rate, 2.1% click-through rate, three sales, and a conversion rate of 3/24.
  • 3rd day:  10.7% open rate, 4.3% click-through, 12 sales, and a conversion rate of 12/48.
  • 4th day: 7.3% open rate, 2% click through, one sale, and a conversion rate of 1/22.

To view our results more easily, here are some visuals of our try at the "4 Day Cash Machine", using AWeber and ClickBank:
